About THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga
The Challenge
The team at THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga were consuming valuable resources completing manual processes to site their construction projects. Site plans are key step in the sales and approvals process, and the methods in which they were created varied between:
In-House by Contracts Administrator, Jai Butler, using alternative site plan software that would take up to an hour to complete, the process of using manual look ups of title / subdivisions, drawing the boundaries, house, and proposed build to scale, then cross referencing with council planning rules/regulations, local water authority, and Google maps.
Outsourcing - costing THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga between $170 - $200 for a basic site plan, or Architectural Plans for $2,000, the problem being not only the high cost, but the rate in which the plans were completed - up to two weeks!
Hand drawn plans on grid paper with pencils, and this wasn’t that long ago!
These cumbersome and expensive processes were slowing down sales momentum, leaving clients waiting longer for their approvals and opening the process up to potential human error with manual handling procedures of the required documentation. And in some cases, once the site plan was created and sent to council, the team were sent back to the drawing board due to non-compliance, uncovering site specific issues such as easements, or steep contours on the proposed site.
Finally, as we all know, the construction industry is very heavy on carbon emissions, THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga felt responsible to reduce their carbon footprint where possible on things such as paper and fuel. The challenge with such a large territory meant their sales teams were on the road for hours upon hours to conduct site visits.
Finding cloud based, paperless solutions across their business was key for not only for the environmental impacts, but for the efficiencies these platforms create.
The Solution
THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga constructs custom sheds, with no two the projects the same. The ability to mark out a proposed build accurately to scale, is imperative to the sales process. During consultations, the sales team search the address on canibuild, displaying the block in high resolution, opening discussions a number of things, such as regulations, setbacks, contours, access, underground services, all of which are presented visually to both the clients and sales-person, providing an easy way to explain site specific factors which can impact both the ability to construct, gain council approval and come in on budget. Once the consultation is over, the process is handed over to Jai to create the site plan to scale, with the custom shed placed in position.
The solution for THE Shed Company was to secure a cloud-based solution to
Increase business efficiencies
Improve accuracy of information
Reduce time spent on site plans & associated costs to produce
Remove lags in moving clients through the sales process to contracts and approvals
The Result
The adoption of canibuild into the sales process has allowed THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga to create site plans on the go, reducing the time spent on each contract by removing the need for a site visit, and the lag to create a site pan using the old methods. The canibuild process to site builds with clients and the creation of their site plan, allows the sales momentum to continue with plans submitted to council on the same day, no more waiting for Friday to come along for Jai to spend his entire day building site plans from the sales calls during the week.
For one council in the Albury Wodonga territory, Architectural Plans are required for each building permit. Using canibuild Marketplace, THE Shed Company Albury Wodonga went from spending $2,000 with a two-week turnaround, to just $195, and a 3-day turnaround - saving over $1,800 per plan!
Gabrielle is Chair of the National Forum Group – THE Shed Company and kindly invited canibuild representatives along to their Monthly Forum to introduce the Award-Winning Platform to the Forum. Since this Forum we have seen a great number of other Franchisees take up canibuild to create efficiencies in their own businesses.
Lastly, both Gabrielle and Jai commented on support from the team at canibuild. Being a client centric business, canibuild provides technical support within minutes of the request being sent, and recommendations on the platform’s features to the team have been taken on board and in most cases actioned promptly.
